They’re still, however, putting out the exact same voltage as an 18V tool. Because the electronics, motors, and cells are better. So is the DeWalt 20V MAX line more powerful than their original 18V line? Yes. Technology and chemistry continue to improve. Still, the guts of each battery cell do vary from brand to brand-even within a single brand. Let me say it again: 18V batteries and 20V MAX batteries produce EXACTLY the same voltage. So yes, 18V and 20V MAX systems operate with the same amount of voltage. Durable construction with a single piece cell holder. 4X runtime compared to DCB201 1.5Ah Battery Pack. It features a 3-LED fuel gauge system that allows for immediate feedback on state of charge. 20V MAX* – 20 volts initial maximum measured without load, 18 volts nominal Includes (1) DCB606 6AH 60V FlexVolt battery (6AH in 20V mode, 2AH in 60V mode) Power of corded, the freedom of cordless. The DEWALT DCB206-2 20V Max 6.0Ah Lithium Ion Premium Battery, 2pk is a premium 6.0Ah battery that provides 2X the capacity of standard Battery Pack (DCB200), and 3X the capacity of compact XR Battery Pack (DCB203).Double Chocolate Fudge Brownies, bake for 25 minutes* – 18 minutes at higher elevations.Barry Bonds, Single Season Home Run King* – Known to have used performance-enhancing drugs. Is it misleading? Only if you don’t look for an explanation when you see something marked with an asterisk. That asterisk and the word “MAX” point to the documentation that clearly states the voltage is rated at its maximum. On both DeWalt and Craftsman tools, you’ll notice their packaging marked 20V MAX*. On the DeWalt 20V Max page, you’ll see an asterisk next to every instance of 20V MAX* and the following near the bottom: The key to this whole debate might simply be to visit the DeWalt 20V MAX* website-and look for the asterisk. 20V MAX is the Same as 18 Volts Nominal – Proven by DeWalt So before you leave with a bad taste in your mouth about DeWalt or Craftsman power tools, understand that everyone does it somewhere. Jump up to OPE (Outdoor Power Equipment) and we get 40V systems (10 cells) that are taking the place of the 36V platforms of a couple of years ago (we’re looking at you, Husqvarna!). Everyone advertises their 12V line (3 cells), not their 10.8V families. Putting a nominal voltage on it is a representation of where the battery operates most of the time.įor some reason, 20V Max vs 18V debate only seems to be an issue among these 5 cell group platforms. From a marketing standpoint, being able to put a higher number on the tool makes it seem more powerful. That means 18V high-power tools and 10.8-volt tools. You’ll find that tools are sold by their nominal voltage in most areas. First, many European countries are more strict about how a company can advertise. I'll definitely be filling my Toughsystem battery box with a few more of these. This brings up several interesting talking points. I am excited about this new technology, and can't wait to see it applied to the Flexvolt batteries to reduce their weight, or even a 20v 4ah Powerstack battery. It cut plywood no problem with the circ saw, and even runs the big hammer drill (DCD999) in a pinch. I also couldn't resist trying it on bigger tools and it really impressed me. Compared to the DCB230 battery I usually run on the sander, the Powerstack battery is about half the size and less than half the weight. This battery was really comfortable on the 20v sander (DCW200) as well, with the reduced weight and improved balance, it was more ergonomic during extended use. I try not to run batteries all the way down to make them last, so when it hits one bar, throw it on the charger. This was a heavy application and the battery delivered incredible power!! It cut almost 20 linear feet before needing a charge, which is incredibly impressive for its size and the extreme cold. I was using my oscillating tool in a pinch, with a diamond grout blade. I later ran the Powerstack battery outside, cutting cement backer board in very cold weather. In those cases I like the 3ah with the 21700 cells. The only drawback one might consider, is with an oscillating tool or a similar tool where you want the larger battery case to help it stand up. It charges very quickly on the fast charger as well, so two of these batteries will keep your impact going all day long. This is great for lighter weight on the tool bag, and the Powerstack delivered consistent power. I like running the small batteries for weight, and compared to the other 20v 2ah and 3ah batteries, this unit has such a small footprint! In many cases it's slightly smaller than the base of the tool. One day I used it for framing with my 20v impact (DCF887) to run 3" deck screws, and it lasted for over 4 hours of heavy use. It is incredibly small and lightweight, it almost feels like a toy compared to the DCB203. This little battery really packs a punch! I received this battery right before Christmas, and used it on many different jobsites.
